Cultivating Resilience: The Story of REMOT Pasture Group

Amid the rolling plains and arid landscapes, the REMOT Pasture Group is rewriting the narrative of sustainable land use. Spread across two sites—50 acres and 5 acres, this dedicated community has turned challenges into stepping stones, with last season’s harvest yielding an impressive 39 bags of pasture. Of these, 17 bags were sold at 1,500 KES per bag to the local conservancy, generating crucial income and setting the stage for future growth.

“Every bag of seeds and every tree planted is a step toward securing our children’s future,”

The Dual Mission: Pastures and Trees

Beyond their success with pasture, the group has embraced a bold vision: fostering biodiversity through tree seed collection. Working hand-in-hand with the Nang’ida Women’s Group, they’ve begun gathering seeds from vital indigenous species such as Croton Megalocarpus, Moringa, Acacia Nilotica, Spectabilis, and Tamarindus Indica. These efforts aim to restore degraded land and provide additional income streams while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Overcoming Challenges Together

While their journey has been inspiring, the group faces significant hurdles:

  • Storage Issues: Lack of secure facilities has left 220 kilograms of seeds vulnerable to rodents and pests.
  • Fencing Needs: Without proper fencing, their fields are at risk from stray animals.
  • Farm Pests: Crop damage remains a constant threat, but the group is exploring eco-friendly solutions.

Through training and support, they are developing strategies to address these challenges, including community-driven plans for fencing and pest management.

The REMOT Pasture Group envisions a brighter future where their fields are abundant, their storage facilities secure, and their reforestation efforts leave a lasting mark on the environment. By integrating modern techniques with traditional knowledge, they aim to double their yields and inspire other communities in the region.

“Our land has always been our strength. Now, we’re learning how to make it our legacy.”

With passion, collaboration, and innovation, the REMOT Pasture Group is not just cultivating pastures—they are cultivating hope for a sustainable and thriving future.
